Oh shit! Oh shit! Oh shit!

I'm going to die!

Oh shit!

Splash!

...

Maybe not.

Splash!

Oh. You're here, too.

[ooc: And welcome Rincewind to the City. He has just landed in the fountain, followed closely by the Luggage. For those who don't know the Luggage, it appears to be a rather battered wooden trunk. Until it stands up and you see hundreds of little human-ish feet.]

The thing that's talking to me?

You're an imp?

[identity profile] bright-shield.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
Uh, no I'm not an imp. And that thing isn't an imp either. Probably. It should be some sort of metallic or p--pl--crap, I forget what it's called... some sort of communication device for accessing the network here.

[identity profile] failed-wizard.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
Like the klacks with voices?

It doesn't matter it all ends the same way.

[identity profile] bright-shield.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Klacks?

Having some sort of device to access the network is rather important here. It'll give you a heads up on the curses, at least. Have you been shown the city guides [1 (http://onetruejustice.livejournal.com/56099.html),2 (http://dubia-lux.livejournal.com/22474.html),3 (http://hosted.livejournal.com/2278.html)] yet?

[identity profile] bright-shield.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
It's... it's something not present in my world so someone else would probably be better explaining it. All of our computers and tablets and such are linked together so that everyone can talk to each other over them... that's called the 'network'.

[identity profile] failed-wizard.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
Err... Right.

There's no imps?

[identity profile] bright-shield.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
Not connected to the network, no. I can't say if there aren't any in the city at all, as there are a lot of strange things here.

[identity profile] failed-wizard.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
Lot of strange things. Right.

I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop.

[identity profile] bright-shield.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
And that's an understatement.

I'm afraid it may drop soon, we're about due for another curse any day now.

[identity profile] failed-wizard.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
Of course "we" are. Do these curses have people turning inside out or suddenly deciding to kill anyone wearing a pointy hat?

[identity profile] bright-shield.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
No, not that I know of. Although we had a recent one where people went crazy and started hunting down the magic users which was ever so much fun considering I'm a magic user myself.

The last curse turned half the city back into kids. The ones this month haven't been too bad, thank goodness.

[identity profile] failed-wizard.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
Right. Because being spotty and getting picked on by the older kids is exactly what I want to relive.

Strike, What Strike?

[identity profile] bright-shield.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
Well, most of the kids seemed nice enough, if a bit rambunctious. And I'm not going to tell that someone was eating the kids... There was also that time that candy and coins started falling out of the sky...

I see no strike.

[identity profile] failed-wizard.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
Right. Falling from the sky. I expect it might hurt quite a lot if it landed on your head. It always does.

[identity profile] bright-shield.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
. . . I can't really say, as I was passed out from something or other at the time, but those coins sure would have come in handy now. Before we used to pay for everything with buttons and lint and hair.

But ah yes, keep your wits about you come midnight. That's when the curses strike. Usually.

[identity profile] bright-shield.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
It's not that bad, really! Usually. If nothing happens at midnight, that usually means that nothing will happen that day at all. Except during that one festival where everyone turned into what costume they were wearing at sunset, but besides that...

[identity profile] failed-wizard.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
You know, when someone says "It's not that bad," it usually is that bad.

[identity profile] bright-shield.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
Well, not usually. . . Having a cautiously optimistic outlook can't hurt?

[identity profile] failed-wizard.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
It doesn't hurt after you're dead, I suppose.

[identity profile] bright-shield.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
. . . . that would be about 1/4 of the city. You can't die permanently here. Usually.

[identity profile] failed-wizard.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
As soon as I count on that, I'll be one of the ones who dies for good.

[identity profile] bright-shield.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
Ah yes, dying is not something I generally encourage. For one, it hurts and two, there's that lack of body warmth thing and such... but you don't have to be dead to be optimistic. It's easier to leave the city if you're not dead anyway.

[identity profile] failed-wizard.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
It doesn't matter. As soon as I get comfortable and happy someplace, I'll just get jerked out of it.

Look at it this way: experience says that things always go wrong. Always.

If I expect it, I'm prepared. If it happens, I'm ready to run. If it doesn't happen, I'm pleasantly surprised for 30 seconds before I return to expecting what experience tells me has to happen: something bad.
